Business Studies

Our aim is to broaden knowledge and understanding of the business world and to develop and apply knowledge and skills within the subject area. The course is designed to cover all of the fundamental areas of business from human resources to finance to marketing.

Students will enjoy a course which has the breadth and depth required to enable them to go onto further study with a host of new skills as well as a better understanding of real world contexts.

Over the two-year period students complete two themes.

  • Theme 1: Investigating small business
  • Theme 2: Building a business

Assessment

Students will complete two external examinations at the end of year 11. Paper 1 will be covering the content from theme 1 and paper 2 will cover content from theme 2. Each examination will last 1hour 45minutes and will have a total of 90 marks each. The assessment ranges from multiple choice questions to 12 mark essays. The assessment includes a number of calculation questions to assess students numeracy skills.

Extra-curricular

The department arranges outside speakers as well as enterprise events to allow students to engage with the outside world of business.

All students can expect a variety of activities, including independent learning. As a department we also emphasise applying knowledge to current affairs and real-life businesses.
