Year 10 Curriculum

Students in Year 10 are embarking on a very important time in their education; the beginning of studying towards GCSE qualifications.

Although two years may seem like a long time, in reality it flies by all too quickly. Students are reminded of the importance of applying themselves fully and to regularly assess their own progress. Students receive high standards of teaching at Allerton Grange and all staff are committed to providing the right support to our students. Each and every one is encouraged to make progress or better than expected progress through differentiated teaching.

We offer a wide range of academic, vocational and technical qualifications at Key Stage 4, taught by specialist teachers.

All Year 10 students will take part in a Study Skills workshop which explores revision techniques. Pre-public exams take place in July as a practice for GCSEs the following year. Students will experience the formal exam process under exam conditions and will be assessed in relation to their predicted GCSE grades.

Students will complete a week of work experience in the last half of the spring term. Our Work Experience Coordinator is on hand to offer support to students in securing a placement; further information can be found on the website under Enrichment.

Assemblies for Year 10 take place on Fridays in the Main Hall in place of registration with form tutors 8.30am – 9.15am. Assemblies cover a range of key messages as well as some special events and speakers linked with areas covered through the Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum. Every half term Rewards Assemblies take place to recognise achievements from individuals and groups.

We follow the school’s Policy for Positive Discipline which allocates achievement and behaviour points to students. Achievement points can lead to prizes or special trips whereas behaviour points issued for breaking school rules can lead to detentions or more serious sanctions.
