Information Technology

The Cambridge Technical Information Technology course from OCR provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills of the essentials of IT.

Students will investigate growth sectors within IT such as ‘The Internet of Everything’ and virtual reality.

Course content Introductory Diploma in IT
This course consists of two externally marked exams (taken in year 12, with the chance of a resit) and three internally marked (externally moderated) project based assignments

Unit 1 Fundamentals of IT (Exam)
• Understand computer hardware
• Understand computer software
• Understand business IT systems
• Employability and communication skills
• Ethical and legal understanding

Unit 2 Global Information (Exam)
• How information is held and transmitted
• Styles, classification and management of global information
• Benefits to individuals and organisations that use information
• Regulatory framework for staring information (the law)
• Process flow of information
• Information security

Unit 5 Virtual and Augmented Reality (Assignment)
• What is, and how do we use augmented and virtual reality?
• Design a virtual reality or augmented reality resource
• Create a virtual or augmented reality resource
• Predict future applications for augmented and virtual reality

Unit 17 Internet of Everything, IoE (Assignment)
• What is the internet of everything
• Repurpose current technology to extend the IoE
• Present concept ideas for development

Unit 18 Computer Systems – Hardware (Assignment)
• Understand the components of a computer
• Propose a system for a given purpose
• Build a system for a given purpose
• Test and evaluate a system for functionality

Entry Requirements:

A good range of GCSEs at grades 4 to 9, including English Language at grade 5 (or above) and Maths at grade 4 (or above).
