Students in Year 13 are preparing for A Level exams and taking the next steps to apply for higher education places or employment. We have a comprehensive tutorial programme in the sixth form which includes careers advice, completion of university application forms and many speakers who talk about specific jobs, careers, courses and gap year opportunities.
Students are able to access careers advice and the careers library. Students also receive advice on writing an up to date CV and can request references from their teachers in support of this. We recommend that students carry out thorough research into future courses and careers to find the best route that suits them. We encourage anyone who may be unsure of anything to ask for help; the sixth form team may not know all the answers but will identify other agencies who can provide specialist advice and support.
Year 13 students are required to attend registration each morning between 8.50am and 9.10am, unless attending assembly; the day of the week allocated for assemblies will be announced at the beginning of the academic year.
The opportunities to get involved with enrichment events continues in Year 13. The Sixth Form Committee run fundraising events for charity at various stages throughout the year as well as organising the Year 13 Leavers Ball. The Ball is well attended by students and staff and compliments a number of events within school designed to send off students leaving Allerton Grange in style.
The Tutorial Programme - helping students grow
In Year 13, the careers programme is continued. In addition, students will be offered some useful life skills, such as cooking and budgeting, in preparation for life beyond Year 13. There is a particular focus on helping you to apply to university, but we also support transition to apprenticeships and college. Throughout Year 13, there will be a continuous focus on essential exam preparation and revision skills.
