In Year 8 we teach Music for one hour per week.

Students will further develop their skills learnt in Year 7 through performance (solo and group) and composition tasks.  Students will further gain confidence, continue to develop skills and develop their music appreciation skills.

Students are required to play keyboards, tuned and un-tuned percussion, sing and they are also given opportunities to perform on their own instruments.  In Year 8, students are introduced to Music Technology on our MacBooks where they learn to use programs such as Garage Band and Logic Pro.

Topic Overview

The units covered include

  • Reggae
  • Samba
  • Hip Hop and Rap
  • Film music
  • Music and the media.

Students are given the opportunity to participate in our extra-curricular activities, which occur weekly after school. Instrumentalists can join the Junior/Senior Concert Band. Students who don’t play an instrument are welcome to join the Pop Choir, Samba Band and/or Rock Band. Furthermore, the music department welcomes students to play on the keyboards before/after school, break and lunchtimes. The students are also allowed to book practice rooms after school to further develop their solo/group performance skills.

All students can audition for the two whole school concerts and school musical we hold every year. In year 7 and 8 the music department hold a lunchtime recital every half-term where students are welcome to showcase their talents in front of an audience.
