It is our vision at AGS that students acquire and develop the skills needed in an ever changing global society to manage their careers, sustain employability and achieve personal and economic wellbeing throughout their lives.
AGS is committed to fulfilling its statutory duty outlined in section 42A of the Education Act 1997 which requires schools to ensure that all pupils are provided with independent careers guidance from year 8 to year 13.
AGS will ensure that the independent careers guidance provided:
• Is presented in an impartial manner, showing no bias or favouritism towards a particular institution, education or work option.
• Includes information on the range of education or training options, including apprenticeships and technical education routes.
• Promotes the best interests of the pupil to whom it is given.
AGS strives to meet the eight Gatsby Benchmarks that are recognised to be the core dimensions of good careers and enterprise provision in schools:
• To provide a stable careers programme in each of its academies
• To support learning from career and labour market information
• To address the needs of each pupil
• To link curriculum learning to careers where possible
• To provide encounters with employers and employees
• To provide opportunities for and guidance on workplace experiences
• To provide encounters with further and higher education
• To offer personalised, impartial guidance
Year 8 Objective: Explore interests and motivations and develop a broad understanding of the working world.
• PSHCE programme to cover: finances and an industry related task
• Assembly programme to cover: financial planning and budgeting.
• Completion of an industry based task designed to give students work related experience.
• Employer talks.
• Employer workshops.
• A talk from a University.
• A talk from a vocational educational provider.

Students can access a number of specially designed ICT Careers programmes, providing them with up to date, comprehensive information in order to help them make informed and realistic career decisions. Students and their parents/carers can access these programs online, giving them the freedom to use these resources at home in their free time. However, as we subscribe to some of these programs they require a unique code (indicated with a *) to allow students and their families to use them. See below for the website links.
