In Year 8, students are taught for one hour each week, during which time they will begin to develop their drawing and painting skills in more depth, using a wider range of media. They will also be given an opportunity to explore ceramic processes. During Year 8, students will explore two in-depth projects.
Day of the Dead Project
Students begin by creating observational drawings of skulls and flowers, before further developing their understanding of this important cultural festival with an ‘Artists’ Page within their sketchbook. They will then go on to produce their own sugar skull design, creating outcomes in 2D (paint) and 3D (clay).
Hundertwasser Landscape Project
Students begin by developing their perspective drawing skills. They also consider the impact of the atmosphere on the way that we perceive colour in the landscape. Pupils then explore the work of Hundertwasser and his use of colour in his architectural design. Using his influence and their understanding of abstraction and composition they create a large scale painted outcome. Students finally use their designs to influence a piece of clay work which is painted using Hundertwasser’s bright use of colour.
