AQA History GCSE

At GCSE, History continues to be one of the most popular subjects. Perhaps the reasons for this have their roots in the earlier years, but the continued exam success of our pupils might also be another key reason. Pupils meet and exceed national standards of both attainment and progress, meaning very good grades where pupils fulfil their potential.

Course Overview

The GCSE History content comprises the following elements:

  • period study
  • thematic study
  • wider world depth study
  • British depth study including the historic environment

Year 11

Shaping the nation

Section A: Thematic studies

  • 2A Britain: Health and the people: c1000 to the present day

Section B: British depth studies

  • Norman England, c1066–c1100NB to include Part four: The historic environment of Norman England

Exam knowledge and skills testing is conducted on an ongoing basis with unit exams at the completion of the full units. There will be a series of pre-public exams.
