AQA History GCSE

At GCSE, History continues to be one of the most popular subjects. Perhaps the reasons for this have their roots in the earlier years, but the continued exam success of our pupils might also be another key reason. Pupils meet and exceed national standards of both attainment and progress, meaning very good grades where pupils fulfil their potential.

Course overview

The GCSE History content comprises the following elements:

  • period study
  • thematic study
  • wider world depth study
  • British depth study including the historic environment

YEAR 10 Paper 1: Section B: Wider world depth studies Section A: Period studies
  • Understanding the modern world
  • Conflict and tension, 1894–1918
The World in Conflict
  • 1D America, 1920–1973: Opportunity and inequality

Exam knowledge and skills testing is conducted on an ongoing basis with unit exams at the completion of the full units. This is around February/March of Year 10 and towards the end of the summer term.
