Our Aim

Our overall aim is to provide quality and comprehensive information advice and guidance to all of our students to enable them to become effective decision-makers and help them to plan their future careers.

The Careers Education, Information & Guidance framework at Allerton Grange School is constructed around 3 main areas of career and work-related learning, in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks:

  • Self-development through careers and work-related education
  • Finding out about careers and the world of work
  • Developing skills for career wellbeing and employability


Appointments and Drop in service

The Careers Department at Allerton Grange School is situated within the Year 11 common room. Students can drop-in during breaks and lunchtimes.

Appointments can be made by students and staff in person, or via email. Parents and carers are always welcome.



Overview of Careers in Year 10

Year 10 students are encouraged through Careers sessions and tutor group sessions to explore career areas in a wider context, the world of work in general, equality and diversity, widening participation, self-awareness and decision making, as well as beginning to appraise their own skills, qualities, and experiences so that they can start to build up a portfolio of transferable skills.

At AGS we deliver careers and work-related education within an integrated course of PSHE, supplemented by some suspended timetable activities, such as Curriculum Days, Job Talk days, Higher Education days, as well as a range of standalone/ discrete provision integrated into the schemes of work for other subjects. Topics include:

  • Making best use of Leeds pathways
  • Introduction to UCAS Progress
  • Writing a Personal Statement
  • General Careers Research and planning using UCAS Progress
  • Various Occupational Talks


Useful links

Students can access a number of specially designed ICT Careers programmes, providing them with up to date, comprehensive information in order to help them make informed and realistic career decisions. Students and their parents/carers can access these programs online, giving them the freedom to use these resources at home in their free time. However, as we subscribe to some of these programs they require a unique code (indicated with a *) to allow students and their families to use them. See below for the website links. Please call into the careers department to get the access codes and instructions.
