- English as an Additional Language
Our aim is to broaden knowledge and understanding of the business world and to develop within students an appreciation of the influences and constraints within which businesses work.
By acquiring an understanding of these issues and considering them in a national and international context, students will be able to develop their own values and standards. This will better prepare them for the workplace and help them to make informed choices about their future careers.
Over the two year period students complete three units.
- Unit 1: Setting up a Business
- Unit 2: Growing as a Business
- Unit 3: Investigating Business
Students complete two external examinations and one controlled assessment. Units 1 and 2 are assessed through external examinations. This makes up 75% of the course. Unit 3 is assessed through a controlled assessment, which makes up 25% of the marks.
After school sessions are run every Tuesday and Thursday for students to catch up on any missed coursework and start exam prep.
The department arranges trips and outside speakers to coincide with the controlled assessment.
All students can expect a variety of activities, including independent learning. As a department we also emphasise applying knowledge to current affairs and real-life businesses.
