Year 7 Catch Up Funding
Year 7 Catch Up Funding Spending and Impact 2019-20
The Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives state-funded schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2).
Number of pupils eligible for Catch Up Funding in 2019-20: 102
Total allocation for the 2019-20 academic year: £28,381
How are we spending the Catch Up Premium?
We draw on research evidence (such as the Sutton Trust toolkit and the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF)) and evidence from our own experience to allocate funding to strategies that are most likely to maximise achievement and ensure our pupils catch up.
Strategies employed:
- Baseline assessments in Year 7 to gain an accurate benchmark of reading and maths capabilities
- Staffing support to enable small group teaching in both English and maths
- Phonics-trained KS2 teacher
- One-to-one support with Teaching Assistants
- Boosting Reading
- Numicon
- Number shark
- Mathswatch
Impact:
Reading: at the end of Year 7, 83% of these pupils had made reading progress (with 62% of them having made at least 10 months reading progress.)
Maths: at the end of Year 7, 92% of these pupils were back on track and no longer 'working below' expected progress.
