Words Matter

Words Matter is a programme we’ve adopted at Allerton Grange to help students to widen their vocabulary and get the most out of their studies.
Each term, a set of 60 words is included in the Knowledge Organiser. These are key academic words that students need to be able to access the curriculum. Examples include analyse, approach, concept, create, data, environment, establish, function, identify, indicate, method, policy, research, similar, theory, vary.

Students need to learn the definitions and are tested to check their understanding – they were tested in January and again in April to check on progress.
At assemblies this week, students are being recognised for their progress and achievements with Words Matter.

In the April test, 10 students got full marks in Year 7 and 17 students got full marks in Year 8. They will all receive a £5 shopping voucher and will be entered into a prize draw to win a Chromebook.

For Year 7 and Year 8, the boy and girl from each year who has made the most progress will also receive a Chromebook.

Thank you to parents and carers for your support. Please continue to encourage students to learn and revisit any words they may be unsure of.
