The Leeds Book Awards
On Thursday 17 May, nine students from Year 7 and 8 attended the Leeds Book Awards, held in the ornate Banqueting Suite at Leeds Civic Hall.
Prior to the event, the students had been busy reading all six books which had been selected by a panel of experts, before voting for their favourite. The authors spoke about their books and inspiration, giving lots of insight into the writing process, from the initial idea to the finished product.
The Poet, Toriah Garbutt, was the compére for the ceremony and performed some of her excellent poems for the audience. The winner in the 12-14 category was Penny Joelson with ‘I have no Secrets.’ Another firm favourite amongst our students was ‘INK’ by Alice Broadway.
The students were then able to have their books signed and to meet the authors. It was a very enjoyable event and the students represented their school perfectly.
