Opera North Talk for Year 9
Year 9 started the week with a visit from Richard Mantle OBE, Director of Opera North and Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.
He spoke to Year 9, describing his route from private industry in the pharmaceutical industry to something quite different in performing arts. He talked about the opera in general and what it takes to pursue a career in opera and other performing arts, including the need for continuous learning.
Year 9 students asked a series of interesting questions including "How do people succeed in the industry?", "What different job roles do people around you have?", "What is an audition process like?" and "How long does it take to master an operatic performance?".
Also present at the talk were three of our younger students, as two students, Mary and Freya from Year 7 were recently in the Opera North production of La Boheme and Sara in Year 8 is currently rehearsing for Street Scene which opens in January 2020.
