Thackeray Medical Museum visit
On Monday 11 February, Ms Rai took the Year 13 Double Health and Social care group to visit the Thackeray Medical Museum. The students are completing a unit on Public Health and need to provide a historical context about health in 1800 England, the introduction of the NHS Act and how this changed the face of health care and public health in the UK.
Ms Rai said: “The Health and Social Care students were great ambassadors for the school; they were engaged, interested and conducted themselves in a mature manner.”
Once the group were back in school, they were already using the information they gathered to improve their assignment.
The students said: “The most memorable thing was the smelly 1842 street! It helped us understand how life actually was in terms of lack of hygiene and disease” and “The trip will definitely help me in explaining the origins of the NHS.”
