Music Showcase and Battle of the Bands
The final of the Battle of the Bands took place during the Music Showcase event on Thursday 28 March.
The Music Showcase, as ever, had an array of accomplished performances. The AGS Rock Band performed “Pyscho Killer” by Cage the Elephant and “Pompeii” by Bastille. The Junior Concert Band gave their rendition of “Havana” by Camila Cabello. The AGS Choir sang “I Will Follow Him” from Sister Act and “Two Islands” by King No-One. The Band performed “Ride” by Twenty One Pilots and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. The Samba Band took on “Sambatastic” and the Concert Band performed “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars and “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. The student band Division also performed their own composition, “Feels Like Nothing”.
The four remaining Battle of the Bands groups each performed a cover song and their own composition, all to an extremely high standard.
The four judges, Headteacher Mr Roper, Harry Smith, Theo Cookson and Phil Gregory, had a difficult decision to make and it was very close.
The overall winners were Kaje, a group of Year 11 students, Jessica S, Kaia B and Krishan J who performed “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack and their own composition “Too pure for that”. They received a prize of studio time at Old Chapel Studios, £100 in vouchers and their name on our Shield.
In second place were a Year 7 band, Anonymous. Members Isaac C, Sara B, Niamh J, Simon T, Ellida E, James S, Lewis A-S and Harry B gave a strong performance of “Where is the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas and their own composition “Do you remember the days?”. They have won studio time at Old Chapel Studios and £50 vouchers.
Princess and the Frogs, a Year 9 band made up of Charlie B, Kaisha M, Euan P and Fergal C were runners up with their version of “Teenage Kicks” by the Undertones and their own composition “Break”. They have won studio time at Old Chapel Studios.
Bathtub Laughing with Year 9 students Chrissie D, Frida J, Iman M, Malaika H and Jacob W were also runners up and performed “Sweater Weather” by Neighbourhood plus their own composition “Masquerade”, and also won studio time at Old Chapel Studios.
We are very proud of them all!
