Great British Plastics Challenge

Melaine Richards, head of accountancy firm KPMG, came into school on recently to speak to a group of Allerton Grange students. The students took part in a ‘true or false’ challenge which led to a discussion around the problems of single-use plastics.

The idea of the initiative is to engage students to take action and explore what they can do to make a positive change and help to combat one of the biggest environmental problems facing the world today. After separating into groups, they designed a plan to persuade a business to give up one of the four main plastic offenders; bottles, cups, straws and plastic bags.

All the students were fully engaged in the session and received a reusable water bottle for taking part. Many thanks to Melanie and Mr Tom Hanson, Enrichment Coordinator, who helped organise the event.
