Deaf Awareness Week
Allerton Grange is taking part in Deaf Awareness Week, which is running 6 – 12 May 2019.
During Form Time, students will be taking part in a competition to watch videos of disguised teachers using BSL signs and guess ‘Who’s the teacher?’. They will also be challenged to fingerspell their name.
We will also be showing a video the DAHIT students and team have made, reflecting on their experiences after watching the Oscar winning film, the Silent Child.
At Allerton Grange, we are proud to be a resourced school for deaf and hearing impaired children.
Many of the children are bilingual using both English and British Sign Language (BSL) in their everyday life. We have a bilingual policy which develops the use and understanding of both languages, as well as using the languages to access the mainstream curriculum.
