Cyber First Girls Competition

We are incredibly proud that one of our Year 8 girls teams got through to the semi final of the National Cyber Security Centre's Cyber First Girls Competition.

In January, a group of Year 8 girls took part in the qualifier round and worked together on a range of online challenges, which included problem solving, working on encryption and decryption, computing and staying safe online. Hester, Megan, Pippa and Sienna  were the only Allerton Grange School team, and the only team from Leeds, to make it through to the semi final stage.

With one member of the team down (Megan wasn't able to be there), the girls worked incredibly hard and finished 3rd in their semi final. Overall they finished 15th out of 156 schools. In the initial stages there were 3000 schools from around the UK taking part so this was an impressive achievement.

Mr Noutch said: "The girls performed amazingly well. They should be very proud of their performance, especially as they have spent their own time researching and developing these skills."

The competition aims to provide a fun and challenging environment to inspire the next generation of young women to consider a career in cyber security. It is a team event, with each team made up of up to four female students from Year 8 in England and Wales, Year 9 in Northern Ireland and S2 in Scotland.
