British Museum Trip for Classics Students
On 14 January, the Classics Department took GCSE students to the British Museum in London. The British Museum has the world’s greatest collection of artefacts from antiquity including the marbles from the Parthenon in Athens, the Bassae Frieze and objects from the Mycenaean Age.
The trip gave students the opportunity to see the reliefs, sculptures and artefacts that they have studied throughout the GCSE course in person and provided a fantastic opportunity to revise. Students also attended the British Museum’s special exhibition, Troy: Myth and Reality. This exhibition is the first major showcase of artefacts from Troy to take place in Britain analysing the myths and historical truth of Troy.
Comments by Year 11 students:
“I found the Classics trip to the British Museum very enjoyable, we all had a great time. The Troy exhibition in particular was very interesting, and seeing the things that we are studying has helped greatly.”
“Our trip to the British Museum was one of the most insightful and enjoyable trips I’ve been on. The visit not only helped in our study of Classics but also developing life skills (such as using the underground). The best part was visiting the Troy exhibition and I would love to go again given the opportunity.”
