Black History Month
Black History Month in the UK begins on 1 October and students have been finding out more about the History of Black History Month during form time.

Students have been encouraged to do their own research and reading.
• Recommended reading includes Sugar in the Blood by Andrea Stuart; The World’s War: Forgotten Soldiers of Empire by David Olusoga; A Fistful of Shells by Toby Green; Black Tudors by Miranda Kaufmann; Black and British: A Forgotten History by David Olusoga.
The books are available from the School Library – see Mrs Sutton to reserve them.
• Leeds Black History Walk on 3 October 2020, 11 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 4 pm, meeting at the Parkinson Steps, University of Leeds. Joe Williams’ History walk will expose unseen narratives: The African presence in Yorkshire goes back 2000 years, when African priests, soldiers, merchants and others operated in Roman York.
